Brief: Use your knowledge of digital fabrication to augment and extend your person art and design practice.
Response: I wanted to substantially alter a substrate like paper using a laser cutter and see what applications that may have. I used micrography images I created for separate project to etch into the paper. After hours on the laser cutter adjusting speed, power, and scan gap settings I finally found a happy balance between how much material was being burned away vs how much was remaining to hold the page together. I ended up using a 104GSM coloured stock. While the etchings alone were stunning, they simply begged to be held against a light. I developed an LED wall-mounted light box that allowed each etched page to become a type of swappable light filter. When viewed in the dark the image comes to life.
